It is very exciting to start a blog and have a few of your social networking friends visit here and there. It is even more exciting when friends of friends start reading your work as well. It just feels good to be setup on social networking websites and having fun creating content that others read. Now you are ready for another form of socializing online, forums. Forums are one of the oldest forms of socializing online, and still one of the most important. You may have already participated on a forum, but now we will are going to work on creating a strong presence and expertise that it will build a solid base of followers who look up to you. These followers will also be very interested in your extended thoughts on your blog.

This article is going to cover the reasons why starting your social life online with forum posting is another important aspect. I will include how using forums can build expertise and bring more traffic to your blog. As I said before, forums are one of the oldest socializing tools of the internet. They are the building blocks of the modern social networks. With forums, you are able to create a basic profile and communicate with others on specific topics. So why is such an old form of social networking still around? The ease of use and the abundance of niche market forums have led to theme hanging around for so many years. Being that most of these forums of a specific topic, they create a loyal following. Many people look to forums to gain or share knowledge on a these specific subjects. The big social networking websites have no niche market focus, so it is hard to build an expertise in your subject of interest.

The reason you want to join forums is because they provide a great place for constant discussions on a specific topic. If you join a forum that is based on your interests, you can constantly learn new things, share your knowledge, and meet others like you. Just as with social networking, I suggest you start off by participating in only ONE or TWO niche market forums.

Getting started with forums

You want to start off by doing a search for terms related to the topics you are truly passionate about followed by “forum”. There is a very good chance that the search engine will bring up a hand full of thriving and reputable forums that are associated with your passion.

Once you have located a solid looking forum, you are going to register and start joining the current conversations. You should consider spending enough time to post 2-3 topics or replies per day.  With these posts you want to leave expert, intriguing, thoughtful, provoking, intelligent posts and replies.  By posting this, you are building your personal brand and expertise. Building and maintaining your expertise in an area besides your blog, is a very important part of your life online. This will act as a great channel to bring readers back to your quality content.
