For those of you who are not familiar, I am going to share a little information about what Facebook pages are and why they are created. Therefore, the first step is creating a Facebook Account!
One of the major reason Facebook Pages were created was because many individuals were creating new Facebook accounts for their business or organization. Not only was this a pain to switch back and forth from your personal account and business account, but it was also against Facebooks’ policies.
One of the best ways to think of what a Facebook Page would be as “Profiles for Brands”, a one-page place with information, links, discussion boards, RSS, pictures, and videos for that “Brand” to share with individuals. This is simply a place for an interaction of “Fans”. However, a Facebook Page, also known as “Fan Pages”, gives users the ability to create a page for anything you want. Most Facebook pages are created for brands as well as specific subjects, celebrities, businesses, interest groups, etc. Facebook pages seem to be used more by businesses while Facebook Groups are used more by non-profits, interests, and causes.
There are a few good reasons you would want to create a Facebook Page for your organization. Your organization can have an unlimited number of “fans” where your regular Facebook Profile is capped at 5,000 friends. Facebook Pages also create a great way of creating a mailing list, they allow owners to “Send an Update to Fans”. Facebook pages have even been showing up high in some search engine positions.
I hope this was a good introduction to Facebook Pages. Become fans of others and test the waters of your own Facebook Page. Hope to see you following us on Facebook.
